We’re the variables. People. We think. We reason. We make choices. We have free will. We can change our destiny.
You knew. You always Knew. You knew this was gonna happen. You sent me here anyway.

#7. Confirmed Dead: The Freighter Four
THESE MOTHERFUCKERS. Sorry to anyone who’s a big fan of Season 3, but aside from the last 4 episodes, I thought it spent a good portion of its time for lack of a better word…well…sucking. When the writer’s strike rolled around, we feared Lost was in trouble. But they managed, beginning with the introduction of four new characters, to create a relentlessly exciting season that managed to not only succeed, but flourish under the stress of the writer’s strike.
Daniel. Miles. Charlotte. Frank. God, I adore all of them. They were so different from the castaways, but I honestly think they revitalized the show after a mostly stale season.
And of course, Miles is my spirit animal.

#14. The Variable: “You knew this was gonna happen. You sent me here anyway.”
Daniel. Just what do you think you were doing. I just…WHY?
To me, this is the most shocking Lost death. I know I’ll get some grief for this, but this was sadder than Charlie and Juliet, whose deaths had been foreshadowed during most of the episode. But Daniel’s was sad because you really got the idea that it was a horrible mistake (even if it was predestined). It was just shocking. Not just because of the event itself, but the logistics of it. He got killed by his mother who was pregnant with him, after she sent him back in time (either to die or to correct the mistake.) It was basically the equivalent of ending with a punch in the face (especially after they got a few good hits in the rest of the episode.) Daniel’s story, like many, is just ridiculously tragic. I missed him a lot.
